While the stars dominated in game one, the Lightning scored early and often and outlasted the Stars’ late game push.
The Stars allowed Brayden Point to get free and he made them pay with a power play goal. They were able keep Point under wraps all first game, and their strategy was to put a body on him and put him into the boards every time the puck was his way.
The Lightning were the beneficiary of two straight power plays, and they cashed in on both. The Stars were only able to cash in on one of the power plays that the Lightning gave them, giving Joe Pavelski a goal in the second.
Take out the power play goals and you’re looking at a 1-1 game. The shot totals, face off wins, hits, and penalty minutes are roughly even.
I think we’re looking at a very good series in the making.
The Tampa Bay Lightning were able to eliminate game one beast, Oleksiak. Oleksiak’s impact was felt all over the ice in game one, but tonight the Lightning were able to keep him to 0 shots, 0 assists, and 6 hits.
I believe we’ll see a six game series with so many battle hardened players.
